Christmas Time
Ron Hamilton, CCCC Conference Minister
Christmas time is upon us! It’s time to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ! The way that we celebrate differs from church to church and family to family. Some people value life-long traditions while others try to create a new way to celebrate. It’s challenging to know what’s new and what’s old. For example, while “Silent Night” seems like a long-time tradition, it’s only been around for 200 years.
We reread the story…we share gifts…we spend time together. Amid our various celebrations, one thing remains constant.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
(Hebrews 13:8)
This reminder from God’s Word helps us understand that Jesus is eternal. When we look at the manger scene, we know that the story is much bigger than the birth of a baby boy. Jesus was the Word made flesh to dwell among us. Jesus was there at the time of creation. While he lived on this earth for a little over 30 years, he is eternal and reigns forever at the right hand of God. He said,
I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last,
the Beginning and the End.
(Revelation 22:13)
He came to live and die for us! As we place our faith in Him, our sins are forgiven and we become the children of God. We begin a new life…an eternal life. Today is a wonderful day. But, it’s only one of many great days for those who are followers of Jesus. Our celebration never ends.
Merry Christmas to everyone in our CCCC family!
