Exceeding Anything We Can Understand

by Terry Shanahan, NE Regional Pastor

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4: 6-7 NLT

If you are following the news it could cause you to worry.

  • The country is divided.
  • Politicians admit they’re not at a place of negotiating. Every argument leads to further polarization.
  • Winning at all cost is the goal and seeking unity is not even on the agenda.
  • At the same time the church has been marginalized in our society. Where it once it may have been a voice of reason pointing to the moral high ground it is now mostly ignored or even mocked.
  • Pew research reports that the Northeast part of our country is the least churched region.
  • The number of churches closing is on the rise.

If all you listen to were these reports it might cause you to worry.

And yet God tells us “don’t worry about anything instead pray about everything.” The number one guiding value of the CCCC way of life is a culture of believing prayer and intercession. As we have been living out that guiding value in the midst of all these troubling circumstances we are experiencing God’s peace which exceeds anything we can understand.

People are being saved. Testimonies come in every week. Churches are being revitalized. Dying churches have come alive. New churches are being planted and we are reaching people with the gospel in ways we never have before. We are developing groups of community pastors who are fighting a spiritual battle together. We are coming along side to care for our churches and pastors with our Turning Point process. Through our shared life and mission we have embarked on a stewardship challenge.

The enemy desires that we become worried and defeated and yet we are experiencing God’s peace, exceeding anything we can understand.

Let us not listen to the world, but listen to the one who does exceedingly abundantly above all we ask and think.
