Making Disciples: Key to Developing Your Church
JOHN KIMBALL, DIRECTOR OF CHURCH DEVELOPMENT
There are three key aspects of ministry that many local congregations don’t do so well any more. People don’t read the Bible as they should – studies show that the vast majority of American Christians simply don’t spend time reading their Bibles. People don’t pray as much as they should – aside from a few prayer warriors that may gather during the week and some quick prayers during Sunday worship, the vast majority of American Christians simply don’t pray very much. And People don’t make disciples as they should – we teach people Bible knowledge, but there is precious little life-on-life investment today that transforms us more and more into the likeness of Christ.
The CCCC Church Development Team can help our local congregations in all three areas as part of our larger Church Development Process. Another opportunity is coming at this
year’s Annual Gathering in Rhode Island to investigate, and possibly join, that process. I will again be joining Pastor Dave Eisley in facilitating our Church Development Intensive,
Making Disciples: Key to Developing Your Church. This all-day intensive will begin at 8:45am on Tuesday, July 19th, and will conclude at 4:00pm, with lunch included. During our time together, we’ll give a broad overview of the Church Development Process, and will provide key insights into several foundational topics:
• The Lifecycle of Too Many Churches – reviewing the stages and symptoms of local
church health and decline
• The Heart of Disciple Making – understanding what it means to make a disciple
and how the process flows
• Discipling Through Spheres of Influence – addressing how culture influences the
way we make disciples
• Disciple Making Relationships – seeing the critical importance of intentional and
redemptive relationships in disciple making
• Obstacles to Disciple Making – identifying the blind spots in our own theological
frameworks
• Restoring Fruit to Local Church Ministry – delineating a simple progression that
leads the way back to fruitful ministry
The majority of churches that participate in Making Disciples: Key to Developing Your Church ultimately decide to enter our Church Development Process.
Interested to know more? Registration will be open by May 1st. Fees include all materials and books, as well as a lunch hosted by our hotel. Please note that this intensive is in-person only. The Church Development Team will host an online version of this intensive in the fall.
